1. Why does my neighborhood smell like sewer?
If you live near a wastewater plant, it could be that the smells are coming from the plant. At certain times the plant can put off smells due to the wastewater treatment process.
If you smell it and you are not near a wastewater treatment facility, there are a couple of possibilities for the smell. One could be that your sewer line has wastewater sitting in it, which could indicate a possible back-up. Another possibility is that there is a lot of wastewater in our sewer mains.
If you are smelling sewer smells we do recommend calling our office at (303) 674-4112, option 2.
2. What should I not put down my drain?
The only things that should be flushed down the toilet should be human waste, and toilet paper. The picture to the right is one of the valves at a pump station. This is clogged with "flush-able wipes" causing it to stay open. Our Technicians then need to shut down the station, and take it apart so that it will function correctly again.
For things you shouldn’t flush down the toilet visit the What Not to Flush page.
3. Where does our wastewater go after it is treated?
Once our wastewater is treated it goes back into Bear Creek. We are required to return at least 95% of the water we take from Evergreen Lake back to Bear Creek. The water that we put back into the creek meets all state and federal guidelines for effluent.
4. Do you have an RV dumpsite?
Yes, it is located to the left of Campfire Pizza off of Meadow Dr. Only RV dumping is allowed. There is no hose for clean up in the winter. We also recommend going during off hours for Campfire as you might have a hard time getting into the area.
