1. Where does our water come from?
The water in Evergreen Lake is processed at our Water Treatment Plant and supplies all of the water to EMD customers. The water in Evergreen lake comes from Bear Creek which is primarily fed by Mt. Blue Sky snow pack.

2. Is the Dam inspected? Is it safe?
The Evergreen Dam is inspected on a yearly basis. It has some surface cracks and damage but nothing that weakens the structural integrity of the Dam. The Dam which was built in the 1920’s held up exceptionally well during the 2013 flooding. For more information on the Evergreen Dam visit the Colorado Department of Water Resources- Dam Safety page.
3. Why can’t I put my boat on the lake anytime anywhere?
Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS)
Evergreen Lake is the main water supply for our area residents. Therefore, outdoor activities for public or recreational use on Evergreen Lake are subject to closure by Evergreen Metropolitan District (EMD) if the water quality/supply is at risk or if preventative measures are needed to mitigate the risk of potential contamination from Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS). ANS are aquatic plants and animals that invade lakes, reservoirs, rivers, and streams and can have devastating environmental impacts on water. Recreational vessels have the potential to be a significant source of the spread of ANS in Colorado. All private boats are required to have an ANS inspection each time prior to launch. All personal watercrafts must launch and check in at the washing station area to have an ANS (Aquatic Nuisance Species) inspection, pay and receive a stamp.
For more information on ANS, please visit Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Visit the Evergreen Park and Recreation page for more information on Seasonal Lake Rules
4. Why can’t I swim in the lake?
Evergreen Lake is the drinking water supply for the Evergreen and Kittredge area so due to water quality issues, no swimming or wading is allowed.
