How to Read Your Bill

Base Rates

Each of our 3 districts have “base rates” which provide for most of the cost of doing day to day business (keeping the water and wastewater running, emergency main breaks, and customer request, etc.). There are both water and wastewater base rates. These base rates are charged every month. Each district has set their own base rates, please see the Rates and Fees above. If you are a wastewater only customer, this is where your billing will end, as we do not meter waste.

Rate increases fund operating costs, treatment chemicals, equipment, and emergencies such as main brakes. We use a third-party modeling system to identify an optimal rate while maintaining what we currently have. This asset management tool also calculates age and expected life for everything to be maintained.

Water Rates

Water rates cover the water that you consume at your property. We bill water accounts based on their total consumption for their billing cycle. Every month we receive a “meter read” from your property and calculate how much water was used during that period. Water is billed for every 1,000 gallons that is used (so, if you use 2,000 gallons of water you will be charged 2 x water charge rate).

We also use a tiered structure when billing water. Currently we have 5 rates for water usage. Most of our customer fall into the first two tiers of usage.  With our new tiers, customers who consume less than 8,500 gallons per month will see a savings in their water usage.  Please see above for tiered prices.

Revenue from consumption goes to repair and replacement of ageing infrastructure, upgrading pumps and other emergencies/customer call outs. We believe that these changes will not only provide you with a fair billing system but will also encourage responsible water usage. By being mindful of your consumption and taking steps to reduce water usage, you can not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also save on your water bills.

You can monitor your consumption through Waterscope, our meter reading software. Sign up for an account.
