Why do you want to serve on the EMD Board of Directors?
I enjoy sharing my professional expertise in water resource engineering and contributing to my community. My professional experience lends itself to engaging with the complex issues of utility management, infrastructure design, responsible development, and environmental protection. I want to contribute my knowledge and technical training to be an asset and of service to the community I live.
A few of the challenges and opportunities EMD is facing in the coming years are as follows:
- changing environmental requirements regarding drinking water and waste water treatment. For example, the removal of pharmaceuticals or chemicals such as phosphorus from sanitary sewer systems.
- accommodating economic growth while managing water resources, maintaining our infrastructure, and protecting the environment and ecosystem we interact with
- responsibly managing utility rates while expanding EMD's service area and growing customer base
Biography
I grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and then came to Colorado to attend college at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where I studied environmental and chemical engineering. After graduation, my wife and I were married and lived and worked in Colorado for several years. After a 15 year stint of careers and graduate school in Chicago and Indianapolis, we returned to Colorado with our three children (14, 13, 11) who are attending Evergreen Highschool, Evergreen Middles School, and Wilmot Elementary.
A glimpse of my personal life:
- I have spent a lifetime in scouting where I fell in love with the outdoors and have continued to serve as a scouter most of my adult life.
- My passion for the environment has led me to volunteer and be engaged in several organizations and boards focusing on stream water quality, environmental advocacy, and environmental engineering education and outreach.
- Having met through church as elementary aged students, my wife and I have continued a life-long connection with different church communities and led several youth ministry programs over the past 20 years.
My family are members of Evergreen Lutheran Church, and our children are active in local scout troops, swim clubs, lacrosse and hockey leagues. I look forward to the opportunity to serve on the Evergreen Metropolitan District and assisting our community in planning for the future, protecting our natural resources, and improving the service for all EMD customers.
